Lakeway Zoning to Get More Oversight

Lakeway zoning is going to get tighter, according to the Austin American Statesman.  The fuss over the location of a rehab center near a school sparked the concern about inadequate zoning review:

Since then, city officials have worked to change the city code. Under the changes, the City Council would have to approve a special use permit for commercial zoning next to, or within 300 feet of a school or residential property.

In addition, a special use permit now is required for all liquor stores, convalescent homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and addiction rehabilitation facilities.
